High School/Middle School Assistant Coach

Job Description

 

Qualifications:

 

1) MHSA/RSD No. 30 Coaching requirements:

  1. Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching core course prior to contact with student-athletes. Certification is good for a five - year period, inclusive of the first season in which the course is completed. www.nfhslearn.com
  2. Completion of Concussion in Sports course prior to contact with student-athletes. Certification is good for a one year period. www.nfhslearn.com
  3. Completion of the sport-specific online rules clinic. Certification is good for one year period. These clinics are available through the MHSA website at www.mhsa.org. 
  4. Must possess a current first aid card, usually valid for two years.

2) Coaching experience.

3) Ability to work with student athletes.

4) Specialized preparation emphasizing the coaching and fundamentals of the respective sport.

5) Good physical health.

6) Knowledge of the care and preparation of athletic injuries.

7) Dedication and loyalty to the Head Coach and Program.

8) Such alternatives to the above as the board deems necessary and                      

appropriate.

9) Pending hire will be determined by passing a background check.

10) All hiring will be done by School District No. 30 on an annual basis.

 

Reports to: Head Coach and Activities Director

 

Supervises: Players and managers

 

Job Goal: To develop a comprehensive program that will provide an opportunity for    students to participate in wholesome and rewarding athletic experiences.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

1) Assume full responsibility for the team you are to coach.

2) Inform student-athletes of scheduled practices and games.

3) Assume responsibility for the care of equipment issued to  your team members.

4) To secure a completed Parental Approval/Physical Form from each player 

before they are allowed to participate.  

5) Secure an emergency treatment form to be available at all events.

6) To inform players of training rules and to enforce them consistently and uniformly.  Notify the Activities Director of any violation immediately.

7) To inform players of the accident insurance coverage and file an Accident Report (found on District x-Drive) with the Activities Director immediately following an injury.

8) Plan and implement a program to assist athletes in developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to successfully compete in interscholastic athletics.

9) Assist in preparing physical facilities for games and practices.

10) Be responsible for the care and security of all equipment.

11) Actively support the efforts of the Ronan Booster Club.

12) Instruct and supervise athletes/students during practices, games and trips.

13) Develop, issue, and collect safety guidelines signed by athletes and their parents.

14) Improve professional development through reading, attending clinics, etc.

15) Notify instructional staff well in advance of taking students out of school. 

16) To make sure all student-athletes adhere to all the expectations and rules in the high/middle school handbook.

17) Assume any additional responsibilities assigned by the Head Coach.

 

Evaluation:

 

Job performance will be evaluated by the Head Coach at the conclusion of the sport

season.  The evaluation will be based on this job description and the coach's individual

performance goal.
