Job Description
Job Title: ASSISTANT BAKER/COOK
Reports To: Food Service Supervisor
Evaluated By: Food Service Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To assist the Food Service Manager in planning menus, maintenance of inventory, preparation of grocery lists, and preparing and serving the meals.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Prior experience in the preparation and serving of foods in a school lunch room
or in a restaurant/cafeteria of equivalent size
3. 21 years of age or older
4. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and
in writing) with students staff, and general public
5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions with speed and accuracy
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality
7. Ability to assist in the planning and preparing of food for the proper nutritional needs of
children within the requirements of the National School Lunch Program
8. Ability to carry out the duties of the food service manager in his/her absence
9. Knowledge of proper nutrition, food storage, and the operation of the kitchen equipment
10. Knowledge of methods of preparing foods, including meats and other main dishes,
salads, sandwiches, and desserts within the requirements of the National School Lunch
Program
11. Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safe work practices and ability to maintain
cleanliness
12. Perform physical requirements which may include:
A. Moderate degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up
to 50 lbs.
B. Frequent walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and prolonged
periods of standing
C. Exposure to noise, heat, cold, hot and cold surfaces, and sharp
and moving equipment
D. Requires coordination and dexterity to prepare foods
E. Ability to move freely around the kitchen and storage areas to
perform food preparation and food serving duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.
1. Responsible for any aspect of Baking/Cooking food preparation, serving, cleaning, etc.
2. Assist in coordinating kitchen workers in the day-to-day preparation and serving of
foods, and in the set-up and cleaning of equipment, utensils, and food storage areas
3. Periodically inspect kitchen cleanliness and safe operation of equipment, including
proper equipment shutdown at the end of each shift, inspect proper storage of food
items each day
4. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about
students and staff
5. Participate in in-service programs as assigned
6. Act as a friendly ambassador for the School District No. 30
9. Maintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy and regulations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
1. Must possess a valid First Aid card
2. Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (May be completed at District Office on Tuesday's and Wednesday's between 8:00 am - 1:00 pm by appointment - $30.00/we may take any form of payment)
3. Pre-employment physical required
4. Must possess a valid Food Handler's Certificate

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Days and hours to be arranged, with salary according to current schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
