Job Title: TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT/RELIEF ROUTE DRIVER

 

Reports To: Transportation/Maintenance Supervisor

 

Evaluated By: Transportation/Maintenance Supervisor

 

JOB GOAL:   To assist in the maintenance of all school district buses, vehicles and equipment in a safe mechanical and operational condition; meet and/or exceed State Police vehicle inspections, and to provide uninterrupted services to the schools and programs within the school district.

      

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent             
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staff
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Familiarity with handling of and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Ability to complete reports as required by the administration
  • Ability to operate light truck, construction equipment, and tractor
  • Perform physical requirements which may include:
    • Moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. 
    • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and bending
    • Exposure to conditions where heating, cooling, and ventilation may be inadequate at times
    • May require exposure to chemicals and the possibility of electrical shock
  • Knowledge of security systems, (i.e. electronic and key locks)
  • Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students
  • Must have and maintain all qualifications as a Montana School Bus Driver; CDL B, with air brakes and the P, S endorsements
  • Good computer skills
  • Have good written/oral skills
  • Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following.  Other duties may also be assigned.

  1. Assist in the maintenance of all school buses, and vehicles (cars, vans, pickups, ect.)
  2. Assist in the inspection and maintainance of all buses to pass the yearly State Policy inspection
  3. Use power tools necessary to perform the duties as assigned
  4. Participate in in-service programs as assigned
  5. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with students and staff information
  6. Act as a friendly ambassador for Ronan School District No. 30
  7. Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Superintendent
  8. Maintains satisfactory attendance, as defined in District policy
  9. Able to diagnose and repair vehicles in all areas related to electrical, heating, suspension and steering, brakes, drive trains and all other areas pertinent to the safe operation of district vehicles and equipment; both regular and diesel
  10. Assist in the responsibility of the ordering of parts, supplies, and materials and maintain inventory control over the same
  11. Assist in the responsibility of submitting a maintenance/parts/equipment budget and working within the budget
  12. Assist in the planning, implementation and monitoring of a preventative maintenance program on all vehicles/equipment
  13. Maintain and monitor shop safety at all times
  14. Open and/or closes the building/gates as required or necessary
  15. Keeps the bus lot and the employee lot free of snow in the winter
  16. Assists in establishing vehicle maintenance priorities
  17. Assists in maintaining all necessary records (both paper and computer) as directed or necessary
  18. Assists in the maintenance of the bus fleet/other vehicles, to meet and/or exceed all requirements related to district policies/procedures and local, State and Federal laws and regulations
  19. Maintain all certifications/licenses and attend all training as required or necessary

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:  

  1. Possess and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR card
  2. Montana Department of Justice criminal background check
  3. Possess a valid Montana Commercial  Driver's License 
  4. Bloodborne Pathogen Training/Hepatitis B Shot Series Training (if required)
  5. DOT Medical Exam
  6. Acceptable Driving History Report

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Days and hours to be arranged, with salary according to current schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Following the probationary period, performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
